Star Trek: Aquarius - Second Shift
Second Shift is the sister game to Star Trek: Aquarius, Diversity Fleet's longest running RPG. Unlike the original chat simulation, however, Second Shift is managed as a message-board game. While different in mechanics, however, the flexibility of Second Shift allows for participation by players who cannot attend regularly-scheduled chat games.
The storyline mirrors what occurs in the chat-based game, and the GM introduces elements from Second Shift and Aquarius into one another to allow for a smooth transition between play styles. Where relevant, chatlogs are posted and message board posts are shared between the formats to allow for cohesive storytelling.
The underlying idea for Second Shift is that the message-board game represents the activities of the Beta Shift crew. All departments share staff, but rarely do they interact on-duty. Off-duty interactions are highly encouraged, and Second Shift personnel are NCOs (non-commissioned officers), enlisted personnel, and specialists running on a different schedule.
Gameplay
"Action" posts are provided by the GM in order to move the plot along. Pay special attention to these posts, as they provide critical background to gameplay.
As far as mechanics are concerned, posts should be in the third-person unless posted in the style of a narrative duty log. Tag individuals with whom you are interacting, and you may wish to label the locations of your posts.
All Aquarius players are welcome to participate as well as to create new characters.
