Security Officer's Log
Ensign Duke Mclane
It took several days, but ever handheld phaser on the ship is inventoried and accounted for. A handful of the hand phasers and 2 phase rifles need to be repaired. Luckily, it was a matter of changing out power supplies. The range has been secured. I have upgraded the locking mechanisms on all of the phaser cabinets. There is now a phaser underneath the tactical station, captain's chair, and 1st Officer's chair. I hope we never need them, but in my experience. I am prepared to receive my first write up as an officer.
My reports have been file with the tactical officer. I now start the long arduous task of making sure that the brig is completely functional. My preliminary scans show that the force field needs to be remodulated. It won't take much to do. I figure less than an hour to remodulate and rescan. I am starting the remodulation while writing this report. Part of being a security officer is dotting i's and crossing t's. The hands on task are something I am good at. This is not the same as being a situation responder.
Furthermore on my list, I am going to work with the First Responders and SRT Team on the ship. Most of security on a starship, even first response, was relaxed compared to being on other ships. With Quintus running this show, I shouldn't get bored, but I will get a chance to hone my other security skills, not just combat and tactical entry.

Security Officer's Log
Ensign Duke McLane
The emitter remodulation of the brigs forcefield did not work. I set to do it again. I pulled out one of the emitters and saw that it was dirty. Another emitter had a crack in the cover. I cleaned every emitter and replaced the cracked emitter. I set the cracked emitter in a bin for repairs. It functioned, but if they needed the brig, it could have been a weak point in the force field. I ran the remodulation again.
Traditionally, operations would repair this, with security assisting. He was trained to do this. I am used to working and jumping in and getting the job done. This would free up Operations to fix more important things. Well, not more important, just of different importance. He ran the scan again. After the remodulation I was able to increase the potential field strength of 18%.
Upon testing the system, I blew out an emitter. It threw me into the door and dislocated my shoulder. I was able to put my shoulder back into place. When I scanned that emitter, I discovered a microfracture. I replaced that emitter. I brought the forcefield up for a test again and I was able to maintain a field strength increase of 22%, without using anymore power. Apparently, the damaged emitters were draining the power. I sat there for almost 2 hours doing my logs. I ran scans. The field strength is holding.
I went to sick bay, because the Captain would have no problem calling me on the carpet for not going to sickbay. She has done it before. The Chief Medical Officer was busy. One of the other doctors tended to my shoulder. It turned out it was a minor rotator cup tear, not just a dislocation. She, the Chief Tactical Officer, and the Chief of Operations, would probably call me on the carpet, but I am prepared for that. One of my greatest strengths and weaknesses is that I tend to be, what was that 20th Century term, that's right, gung ho.
I know that Captain Quintus was one of the few Command Officers that would except a former member of the Rough Riders on her ship. Many others washed out of Starfleet because their was no place for them in Starfleet anymore. I am trying to live up to her faith that I can adapt from being an enlisted heavy hitter, to an officer.
I am putting together a list from the Security department, to submit to the Chief Tactical Officer for Cross Training. Not just cross training in Medical like the First Responder teams, but cross training across the board. That will have to wait until after I test the First Responders. I would like to put together a drill for them. However, that would mean talking to the CTO and Commander.
