Letter of Condolence
Postby DeirdreMcGowan » Sat Aug 30, 2008 9:51 am
TO: Gregory and Samantha Daniels (Des Moines, Iowa, Earth)
FROM: Lieutenant Deirdre Brenna McGowan (Chief Engineer: USS Aquarius)
RE: Ensign Michael Daniels
***
Dear Mr. and Mrs. Daniels
Words cannot express my sadness about the loss of your son, Michael. Our time together was short and I barely knew him, but he went about his business day to day with a bright smile and cheerful attitude on top of bright promise and competency. His Academy record was outstanding, and it would not have taken him long to progress up the ladder here on the Aquarius with the way he worked. He was a star of the department, and I grieve with you that his bright light was extinguished so prematurely. Even with the short time aboard, he had made many friends, and I had seen him in the main lounge surrounded by them, laughing and chattering away during his down time. It lightens my own heart to know that he enjoyed his time aboard the Aquarius.
I am not certain how much of the circumstances were explained to you, but I must tell you that his death was quick, and I doubt he felt any pain. He was right next to the exploding EPS conduit that claimed him instantly.
I am not sure of our orders, and though nothing I say or do can bring Michael back, I promise you that I and the others in the Engineering department will work tirelessly in our duties to help bring those responsible for the attack on the ship to justice if that is where we head. It is all we can do to assuage our own grief, though it be but a pale shadow of your own.
You have my deepest condolences, as little as they must mean to you right now. While we all here will eventually move on as we must, Michael will forever be in our hearts as a fount of joy and great pride.
Best Wishes for Your Family,
Lt. Deirdre Brenna McGowan
