'Crush'
Ensign Leman Desu
Tuesday, August 19th, 2008
Leman walked through the blackberry forrest in nothing but his underwear and a leather belt, seeking out the one called 'Russio' who promised to bring him the fair maiden he had been seeking for so many years.
Hung from the belt at his hip was a scabbard holding a Klingon-like blade- he could sense the blue ripples of energy flaking about.
Without warning the Great Beast of Ritesh burst from the canopy of the forrest breathing fire onto the ground. Leman shielded his eyes with his arms and hid behind a tree. When the forrest went quiet he gingerly plucked his knife from his belt and brought it to the ready- he hopped out from behind the tree trunk and was enveloped in a blast of fire. The knife's energy projected a shield around him and the fire could not touch his skin.
The same could not be said for his clothing. When the Great Beast stopped its attack Leman was stark naked.
Undaunted he lept to attack the dragon in the nude. Skin against scales, knife against claws, scream versus roar- he was hopelessly outmatched. The Great Beast threw him across the forrest floor and into the Caves of Jok- where he would no doubt become a meal for the beast.
He remembered the words of a great sage who had told him-
'The greatest weapon you hold is your mind, and nothing, nothing can ever defeat it- unless you defeat yourself.
Spurred on by the words of the great sage he burst from the caves and into the Great Beast's mouth. His muscles straining against the jaws as the beast's teeth cut into his bare flesh.
With a herculean effort he broke the beast's jaw and snapped the knife down its throat. Ritesh wailed and collapsed in a sea of golden blood. But his teeth had already killed Desu. He too collapsed to his knees and felt the blood drain from him. His consciousness, his awareness fading he realized that soon nobody would ever hear of his great tale- that the people of Ritesh would never know of their savior...
When Leman awoke from his dream in his quarters he once again took stock of his destroyed articles, mementos and everything else that gave him moments of clarity in times of unrest.
No fish tank, no shrimp, no chocolate. Nothing that made him happy was there. Not even- potato chips.
