“The party turned out pretty good,” Zak said as he lay in bed.
“It did,” Deirdre acknowledged, with some degree of hesitation, as she snuggled up next to him.
“It was also nice to have an evening with you with no complaints,” he added. “Especially when you wear that dress.”
“It's just a dress.”
“To you, maybe.” He tenderly ran a hand over her hair. “To me, seeing you in that glittering green, shapely column of fabric made my heart go all pitty-pat.”
“I hope so,” she responded dryly. “Would've put a wrinkle in the party if Jocelyn had to do CPR.”
“Would you have thanked her profusely for saving my life or punched her in the nose for putting her lips on mine?” He asked, smirking.
“Both, in that order,” she said, smiling up at him as he laughed. “You didn't look so bad yourself in that suit. Rather old-fashioned looking, but it was nice.”
“Definitely old-fashioned,” he admitted. “Replica of the one my great-great-great-great grandfather wore at his wedding.”
“The scientists seemed to enjoy themselves. That Mechelle can really seemed pleased about having that nano-particle stuck in her head,” Deirdre said.
“Dr. Nidari seemed almost as pleased to have found it.”
“Almost, but not quite. Seems to be a silly thing to be so happy about though,” Deirdre commented.
“She's a scientist who lives to find those types of things, to be carrying one around with her... Well, I guess it would be hard to find a similar occurrence that would make either of us that giddy,” Zak said.
“I definitely would not be happy to have nano-M/ARA in my head,” she said, causing Zak to chuckle. “Neither would you like to have a miniature pile of paperwork in there either.”
“Definitely not, darling.”
They lay together quietly for a few moments before Zak, grinning wickedly, spoke.
“You know, speaking of M/ARAs, I think there might be something wrong with my warp core.”
“Really?” Deirdre asked, smirking.
“Yes, I was wondering if you could take a look at it,” he suggested.
“I'd be happy to,” she said.
