"I can try interrogating Ensign Hanover down in the arboretum," Zak offered, though the sweetness of the gesture was canceled out by the smirk on his face.
"Don't bother, she's not talking," Deirdre said, plopping herself onto the couch in her quarters. "You didn't send those?" She asked, pointing to the second set of flowers she'd received that day. The first ones that Zak had sent had also mysteriously appeared there, but that was Bitsi's doing.
"Nope, once a day is my limit. Especially since if I had I expect you'd toss me into the recycler right along with them." He settled onto the couch beside Deirdre. "It's really rather funny," he said, earning a frosty glare from his couch companion. "You thought it was funny that Moretti got the teddy bear and thong, didn't you?"
"Yes, but that's different!"
"Oh? How, exactly, is it different?"
"Thongs are... sexual. Candies and flowers are..." She trailed off.
"Something somebody who loves you would give?" Zak asked rather rhetorically as he took Deirdre's hand and kissed it.
"You didn't send her the bear, did you?" She asked, squinting at him.
"No," he replied, chuckling. "I like my career and rather hope to keep it, thank you. I didn't send the flowers and SRMs to Nidari, either."
"What?!" She hadn't heard about that, having been too busy trying to ignore her own unexpected gift. "Joceyln got SRMs?"
"Yes," Zak answered, holding Deirdre down in case she wanted to "verify" that... as did every other person who preferred men sexually that had heard the rumor. He couldn't figure out what was so special about the magazine himself, though is someone offered him a copy of SRF he certainly wouldn't refuse. "Someone obviously heard of my romantic genius and decided to either repeat the gesture, hoping one of the three lovely ladies of the Aquarius would bite, or have a good joke."
"They obviously don't have a good sense of humor if they were joking," Deirdre said darkly.
"That's only because you were one the Objects, Dee. Everyone else on the ship is probably a kilo lighter after all the laughing."
"Hmph."
"So what kind of a thong was it, exactly?" Zak asked. "Oof!" He rubbed his stomach where Deirdre elbowed him. "Loving you is a dangerous business, darling."
