Intelligence Briefing - Ord Mantell

Ord Mantell is a moderately inhabited planet, with some farming across its extensive (but rocky) plains, and a small bit of industry. The majority of its income, since the Cold War began, is sourced in the planet's black market -- the spice trade, various crime syndicates, and a growing, riotous mob all call the planet home. Its legal income, aside from the mining originating with its rich volcanic geology, comes from the continent of Worlport, which plays host to (increasingly abandoned) casinos, beach resorts, and other such luxuries.

The majority of the problems are sourced in the Republic's handling of a recent corruption scandal among the governmental officials of Ord Mantell as well as the Republic navy stationed there. Local officials had accepted bribes from the Sith Empire, and a Republic admiral sold off the Republic's navy assigned to patrol Ord Mantell.

Several armed riots have broken out recently, all aiming at an "independent Ord Mantell." The leader of these riots, a dissident known as the Blue Defender, has been taken into custody, but on thin grounds for arrest.
