"Nichols. Doctor Christy Nichols." Christy replied politely. "I just wanted to report in, sir, and make sure there wasn't anything I needed to know about before I started work."

Qeriv returns to running scans on various subroutines for breaks in the systems or corrupted files. Looking at some subroutines he downloads some unusual activity in one of the cargo bay's transporter and communication systems. Perhaps someone or something has been downloading viruses into the system, or accidentally transported something onto the station.
=/\= Admiral, on it. The Engineers tell me, they have been running crazy attempting to fix the replicator issues. I have found some unusual activity and breaks in Cargo Bay 7, they appear to be in the cargo transporter and a communications station. I am on my way to investigate the issue.

Admiral's Office Admiral Sarvek The admiral gave her a sharp nod of acknowledgement, pushing back her chair slightly before appraising her. She seemed neatly presented, competent, and the Vulcan particularly appreciated that she was seeming to be quite dedicated to her education and status as a scientist -- introducing herself as "doctor" rather than with her rank. "The usual rough patches getting the station operational, not to mention the typical black market activity that is already settling in with regards to the commercial sectors. We intercepted several strange artifacts that poisoned their smugglers several days ago. Beyond that..." She let out a small sigh. "Beyond that, nothing terribly out of the ordinary." She held up her finger as the comm chimed. "A moment," she stated, and tapped the communicator. "Thank you, Mister Qeriv. Please report in with any findings." Redirecting back to Nichols, she selected a padd out of a stack sitting on the table next to her, and gently scooted it across the desk's surface towards her. "This will bring you up to speed on the situations here, as well as give you a more detailed breakdown on the scientific equipment and other science personnel currently on board the station."

Mission Notes
Capricorn gets exciting news from Starfleet's Deep Space Observatory (DSO): just a few sectors away, a "ring-form" supernova -- whose expansion is essentially in slow-motion due to gravitational pressures of the dying star's composition -- is set to explode. The science department is tasked with turning all of their attention to the phenomenon, and the engineers have been requested to assist in making any relevant changes to the station's sensor arrays needed.

Admiral's Office Lt. jg Christy Nichols, PhD
Christy studied the PADD for a long moment. "Understood. Thank you, Admiral. With your permission I'll put my kit in my quarters and head to the science lab. It looks like there's a lot happening right now."
With a nod from the Vulcan, she turned and left, getting the location of her quarters on the way out.

Science lab Lt jg Christy Nichols, PhD
An hour later, she was semi-ensconsed in her new quarters and had gone to the science labs. One of the techs had pointed her in the direction of the - for want of a better description - energy cell. She considered it, hands on hips for a long moment. She double checked the logs, only to find there had been no logged work done on the object. Well, theta radiation was nothing to laugh at.
"Computer, display all known causes of theta radiation and the precautions used in its presence." It wasn't her area of expertise, so she wanted to be sure. She read the display quickly; there wasn't much there.
As she changed into the appropriate hazard suit, she considered some of the questions in her mind. Where had the thing come from and why had it ended up on the ship which had brought it here? More importantly, what was it made of? She had no idea what could contain anti-matter, but engineering might. A mass spectrometer might give her some ideas as to why the radiation was leaking, once she knew what should be used.
Another check with a friendly lab tech helped her find the instrument, and she set it up to see whether she could find out anything about the makeup of the cell.
=/\= Dr Nichols to Lt Jameson, do you have a little time to go over what would be the best materials contain anti-matter?=/\=

Looking over the details on the new mission. Looking at the crew member working on security and computer issues, Crewman, looks like things are going to get real interesting around here soon!
=/\= Admiral, it appears someone has gained access to a cargo transporter, and com station to interrupt station operations, and listen in on low security communication systems. At the moment there does not seem to be a threat to the station, just crazy replicator issues. I have a team working on locating the origins of the breaks.

Mission Notes
The computer demonstrates a number of substances that emit theta radiation, but nothing particularly common, native to local systems, or likely either to be brought through via legitimate means or on the black market.
The item brought into Science seems to be a small cube, with a greenish glow, along with other stray pieces of what almost appear to be scrap metal. A medical report attached confirms that these strange items were what the sickened smugglers had identified as their haul, but they had very little awareness of the illness-inducing properties when they were hired to bring them aboard.
Capricorn also gets exciting news from Starfleet's Deep Space Observatory (DSO): just a few sectors away, a "ring-form" supernova -- whose expansion is essentially in slow-motion due to gravitational pressures of the dying star's composition -- is set to explode. The science department is tasked with turning all of their attention to the phenomenon, and the engineers have been requested to assist in making any relevant changes to the station's sensor arrays needed.
Meanwhile, Qeriv's investigations reveal that the computer systems'/LCARS' errors were not caused by the existence of malware, but rather also seem to be timed to when the items were brought on board.

Admiral's Office Admiral Sarvek"Strange," she responded to Qeriv. "Very strange indeed. Excellent, I look forward to your report." Sarvek sighed, thumbing through some of the most recent and more mundane news, and headed down to the officers' mess. Perhaps it was her Starfleet "upbringing" of the communal practices surrounding food and the comfort such things provided, but she was particularly inclined towards it -- it kept her in the loop of all of the important gossip and serious discussions among her staff, and it felt... home-y somehow. She headed down, expecting to find a few of the other crew.

While Christy was waiting to hear back from engineering on the cube, she decided she had probably look into the changes needed to observe the supernova. She checked the settings in place and started making a list of changes that would need to be made. It wasn't long, but would need to be done quickly.
She was looking forward to being able to observe the phenomenon, and hoped the observations of the department would add to her understanding of what happened when a star went supernova.

To: Admiral Sarvek From: LTJG Qeriv
Ref: Artifact Investigation
Docket No. QZA-109017x
Synopsis:
I have interviewed 25 people and interrogated 13, the information I have collected thus far is listed here:
1. I interrogated a small bald fat Ferengi name Thurn [pronounced Hurn] he informed while he deals in artifacts from various locations and dealers, he very seldom sells or purchase his artifacts on the black market. He and several other individuals interrogated/questioned informed a Human named Arnest, and Romulan named Quidg have been selling similar artifacts as the one we have on the station. Both the Human and Romulan have a long list of crimes on the Federal Criminal Registar. Thurn, knew of the artifacts and has seen one on Ferenginar. I also interrogated a human antique dealer named Blake, he told me the artifact in question is believed to have come from a distant star system, and among many cultures they are considered evil and cast strange powers over people.
2. I interviewed a Professor Krysti from Denebula who has examined several similar artifacts. He could not say for certain the origins of the artifacts or what the source of their power is. His theory is they have been deposited in this region either from an asteroid collision or a comet or both.
3. On Andor Prime there is an old woman named Wilamma, she told me when she was a little girl some 100+ years ago, a bright light appeared in the sky and crashed near the Kelba Ice Caves. He father a prominent Andorian explorer and astro scientist was called to examine the round object. After a prolong steady of the object by Dr Loqui and some of the Defense Researchers, they concluded it was a probe launched somewhere in the Tau Ceti system or one of the neighboring systems. They also determined it contained numerous smaller probes wll contained an unknown energy source, nor could they determine whether it was on a scientific journey, weapon of some kind, or a military probe on a recon mission, and possible went off course and ended up in Adorian space. A similar probe crashed landed on a remote asteroid deep in Klingon space that wasn't discovered until the Klingons were location of a location to build a military outpost near the Romulan border. Dr Loqui and his team theorize there could be several of these probe in this region. According to the Adorian and Klingon data banks, list the probes as dangerous, should be avoided, quarantined or destroyed.
3. Based on the data I have located thus far, I recommend the following a] we approach the artifacts with extreme caution, b] keep them in a secure area of the station away from the station crew and visitors, c] post an armed security detail to guard them d] keep a close watch on anyone who is working around/with the artifacts. I have already posted a detailed inside and outside the lab with orders no one is to enter without a security permit badge. I have also taken extra precaution and increased the number of security cameras and sensors in the work areas a labs. With your permission, I would like to heighten the current security to Yellow.
Respectively Qeriv Security Officer
